O&I,
as a responsible company, strives to maintain an ethical site. As part
of this effort many of your favorite modern day artists will not be found
here as their works remain under copyright. Works on this site come from
either Public Domain works or we have reached a license agreement with
the contemporary artist. If you see a work on O&I that you feel is
in violation of copyright law LET
ME KNOW immediately so that it can be removed and I can research the
copyright further before either permanently removing it from my site or
adding it back in. Please do not engage in or encourage copyright theft.
The following artists works are the most commonly requested by my new
customers and their works, unfortunately, remain under copyright so they
can not be found here:
Adams,
Ansel (with the exception of those works he declared, within his lifetime,
to be copyright free and assigned to the National Parks)
Kandinsky,
Wassily
Klee,
Paul
Lempicka,
Tamara
Matisse,
Henri
O'Keefe,
Georgia
Picasso,
Pablo
Warhol,
Andy
Wright,
Frank Lloyd
This
is not, in any way, a complete list (in fact, it's a very short list).
Nor are all stitching designs based on their works illegal- some few have
been, quite legally, licensed. However, if you are in doubt ALWAYS ask
for proof of licensing- if you see a work by one of these artists in a
well-established place such as Herrschner's or The Stitchery it is probably
safe to assume that the needlework artist has been licensed to adapt the
work. If you see a link from the artist's Official site to the one selling
the product it is probably safe. If you see it on a site similar to mine
it is probably not- protect yourself, the original artist and responsible
sites by not supporting those that refuse to respect you, the original
artist or me by offering, at the very least, dubious products and at the
most flat-out illegal products.
